Assessment

Understanding your child’s strengths and needs

Assessment can take place at school or at home and is usually completed in a 90-minute session. We gather information to build a clear profile of your child’s speech, language, literacy and social communication skills.

The results help determine whether therapy is recommended and guide meaningful, individualised therapy goals.

  1. 01

    Initial conversation

We discuss your concerns, location and the most suitable next steps.

  2. 02

    Assessment

A structured session at school or home builds a rounded communication and literacy profile.

  3. 03

    Recommendations

We explain the findings and recommend therapy goals when support would be beneficial.

Intervention

Flexible therapy that fits the school day

Therapy sessions are usually allocated as 60 minutes: 45 minutes of direct work with your child and 15 minutes of indirect clinical work.

Direct therapy

Individual face-to-face support delivered at school wherever possible, or at home.

Clinical preparation

Planning, goal setting, note writing and preparation for the next therapy session.

Connected support

Regular communication with parents, plus teacher liaison and handovers to help skills carry over.

Clear, regular communication

Parents receive a summary after each weekly session. We also aim to meet with parents each term, online or face to face, to review goals and progress. Where school-based therapy is recommended, session times can be coordinated with teachers to work within the school schedule.
